Chris is Volunteer of the Month Award winner

Our latest Cricket Shropshire Volunteer of the Month award winner is Chris Dirkin from Shifnal CC.

The nomination from Will Clarke, Director of Cricket at Shifnal, said: “Chris led the Get Set Weekends at Shifnal this Spring in the lead up to the new season.

“The ground, pavilion, fixtures and surround were starting to look very tired and in need of some tender love and care and generally sprucing up.

“He organised around 40 volunteers from juniors to board members to current 1st XI players to attend at different times during the build-up to the season and hand out the jobs that needed to be done.

“This included the painting of the hand railings in front of the clubhouse, painting of the front and sides of the clubhouse, jet washing the patio and netting, varnishing the wooden benches in front of the pavilion, and wire brushing and painting the old entrance gates.

“He also arranged and purchased all the necessary equipment including the paint, cleaning supplies, wire brushes etc.

“Wooden slats were donated from a local woodyard and have been used to make the boundary edge seating like new again.

“On the back of the Get Set Weekends, the bar also had an overhaul, decorating throughout with new beers on tap for thirsty visitors.

“All this set the club up well for the 2025 season, and without Chris’s plan and chivvying of a band of helpers, it wouldn’t have been completed.”

Chris was presented with his award which was for April by Cricket Shropshire Director of Community Cricket Hafeez Choudhry.

Congratulations to Chris on his award, look out for news of more Volunteer of the Month award winners soon.
