Bridgnorth primary schools enjoy day at the cricket

Youngsters from five primary schools enjoyed a brilliant day of cricket at Bridgnorth CC for a Key Stage Two tournament.

Teams from St Mary’s Bluecoat, Alveley, Claverley, Castlefields A & B and Morville, took part the competition.

All of the participating schools have recently benefitted from in-school cricket delivery through the Chance to Shine programme and our Affiliation Packages, which have helped to develop pupils’ skills and spark excitement ahead of events like today.

The competition format saw schools split into two pools for round-robin matches, with the top two teams from each progressing to the finals.

There were also playoffs for second, third, and fourth-placed teams, ensuring everyone got plenty of game time and a shot at glory, but it was Castlefields A who came out on top on the day.

Coaches Tim, Shannon, Ben, and Luke from Cricket Shropshire were on hand throughout the day to support the players.

Cricket Shropshire Development Administrator Vanessa Russell said: “Their encouragement and enthusiasm helped make the event a great success.

“Despite cooler temperatures, the sun eventually made a welcome appearance, and judging by the smiles in the photos, the children had a fantastic day representing their schools.

“A big thank you to all the schools involved, Bridgnorth Cricket Club for hosting, and our brilliant coaching team for bringing the game to life!”
