D40s undone by Welsh batting power

Cricket Shropshire’s Disability D40 squad came up against a powerful batting line up when they hosted Wales at Shelton Cricket Club.
Shropshire skipper Adam Marshall won the toss and decided to bat first, and there was a promising start with 29 on the board after three overs.
But Wales then took control and Shropshire were dismissed for 162 in the 39th over with Danny Percy top scoring with 48, Damon Morris unbeaten on 33 and Cally Rigby hitting 32.
Coach Graham Furber said: “We felt that our score was probably 30-40 runs under par, but even that proved an underestimation as our visitors, with an amazingly powerful batting line up raced to 166-2 in only 21.1 overs.
“Tom Wallace took a promising 1-26 with his first attempt at bowling off spin for us, and his wicket was the result of a brilliant leaping outfield catch by Evan Pickford.
“The other wicket was a run out, courtesy of superb direct hit from the boundary by Cally.
“Our thanks to our two excellent umpires Pete Maltby and Wyn Williams, and to all at Shelton CC, one of Shropshire’s Disability Hubs, for their superb hospitality.
“Thanks also to our two scorers Ellen Hassall and Jenny Randall, and to Luke Clark for keeping the scoreboard ticking over so efficiently throughout the game.
“Congratulations to Lez Randall and his squad on their excellent win and wishing them good luck for the rest of the campaign.”
The next D40 game is on Sunday 22nd June when the side entertain Lancashire at Wellington CC.
Graham added: “Finally, wishing our Oli Harrison all the very best when representing the England and Wales Transplant team in their Ashes clashes with Australia this week.”
