D40 side seeking new recruits

Cricket Shropshire’s Disability D40 squad have stepped up their preparations for the new season with outdoor nets – and are still looking for new recruits.

The squad held the first of two outdoor sessions at St Georges CC in Telford on Sunday with the second scheduled for this weekend.

Coach Graham Furber said: “During the summer the squad will compete in the Northern section of the top disability league competition in the country, facing the formidable squads of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire and Wales.

“We are always on the lookout for league standard hardball players with a disability to strengthen the squad. We know there are players out there who are eligible – please come along and get involved.”

The second session is this Sunday, April 13, at 10am at St Georges CC.

Graham added: “Our grateful thanks to Mike Waldron and our host club for the use of their facilities.

“Disability cricket originated in Shropshire through the pioneering work of the late Dick and Fred Wildgoose in the late 1980s, and the county continues to punch above its weight in national competitions.”

This year’s fixtures are:

  • May 25: Yorkshire (home)
  • June 8: Wales (home)
  • June 22: Lancashire (home)
  • June 29: Yorkshire (away)
