MCC Foundation Hub a big success in Shropshire

Cricket Shropshire’s MCC Foundation Hub programme has proved a big hit with those youngsters who took part.

The hub was the first run by the board for Girls (11-16) and Boys (Under 14s) at the cricket centre at Shrewsbury School.

To be eligible, the youngsters had to be state school educated and not part of the current County Age Group programme.

Regional Development Programme Manager Darrell Corfield said: “It has been brilliant to see all the youngsters involved in our first MCC Foundation Hub.

“The 10-week programme of indoor training has now been completed and will be followed by a series of games against other hubs, local schools and County Age Group teams.

“There is also entry into an exciting nationwide knockout competition where four finalists, two girls’ teams and two boys’ teams, will earn themselves the opportunity to play in a Grand Final on the main ground at Lord’s.

“The MCC Foundation Hub programme provides free-to-access training and match play to 6,500 state-educated young cricketers at 164 sites across the UK.

“The Hubs focus on talent: helping promising youngsters who are engaged in cricket develop their skills alongside other young cricketers.”
