Shannon joins team as Cricket Development Coach

New Cricket Development Coach Shannon Aston brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Board in a variety of sports.

She joins the board as one of our new Cricket Development Coaches focussing on continuing the growth of the Women and Girls’ recreational game in Shropshire

In her previous role with the Shrewsbury Town Foundation, she has delivered on the BTEC programme, disability sessions, the Girls Emerging Talent Centre and Girls Development Centre, as well as assisting on their Youth Development Programme.

She has just completed an Honours Degree in Sports Coaching and Development after passing the Foundation Degree with First Class Honours. 

Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “Shannon will be playing a crucial role in supporting our Women & Girls Officer, taking over some of her recreational activities.

“She will also support activities in the Pathway working with Development Age Groups.

“Shannon brings to the team experience in coaching in education settings, along with working in a professional sport environment.”

Although much of her coaching experience is in football  among other sports, she has been connected with Newport CC for much of her life, having played junior cricket at the club and travelling the region scoring for the senior teams, including in the Birmingham League.

She has also been involved in the junior section at Beacon CC supporting the All Stars programme as an Activator.

Steve added: “We are looking forward to the fresh perspectives and innovations that she will bring to strengthen our team.”

Shannon said: “I am looking forward to starting a new chapter in my coaching career and to help grow and develop the women and girls’ game in Shropshire.”
