Tom receives SDCL player of the season award

The 2024 Shropshire Disabled Cricket League Player of the Season award has been presented to Tom Shackell of Oswestry DCC.

The presentation was made after the recent Oswestry DCC indoor game against St Georges DCC at Oswestry Leisure Centre during this season’s campaign.

The award is made annually in memory of SDCL Secretary Graham Furber’s son, Richard who was a founder-member of the League.

The SDCL has run every winter since 1990, save for the Covid year.

Graham said: “Considering how much Disability Cricket has taken off both nationally and internationally, Shropshire can be so proud that it was all started off through the sterling work of Dick and Fred Wildgoose in Oswestry in 1989.

“I believe we are still the only grass-roots indoor disability league running in the country.

“The 2025 season actually finished on Sunday will all matches having been played and again, all in great spirit. They really are a joy to run!”
