Shropshire Cricket Collective awards in the spotlight
Our next awards to be featured from the Presentation Evening are part of the annual Shropshire Cricket Collective Awards promoted by the ECB.
These awards recognise some of the work done by the unsung heroes in our cricket community across the county.
Nominations were sought throughout the Summer, with clubs able to submit their entries which were then considered by a panel and the winners chosen.
Cricket Innovator – Guy Black (Bridgnorth)
The nomination said: “Bridgnorth Cricket Club, led by the dedication and drive of Guy, has shown outstanding resilience and community spirit in rebuilding its programmes and facilities to create a welcoming space for all.
“A major highlight has been the launch of a brand-new Super 1s hub, providing opportunities for young people with disabilities to enjoy cricket in a supportive and inclusive environment.
“Guy has also gone above and beyond by delivering coaching sessions outside of SCB support, reaching more local children and schools.
“His commitment to rebuilding, inclusion, and growing the game makes both Guy and Bridgnorth CC shining examples of community passion and perseverance.”
Guy was unable to attend the Presentation Evening, his award will be presented to him at a later date.
Connecting Communities – Wendy Timmis (Shelton)
The nomination said: “Wendy is at the heart of Shelton Cricket Club’s community — a true ‘yes’ person whose positivity and commitment shine through in everything she does.
“As Safeguarding Officer, she ensures the club remains fully compliant with DBS checks and policies, keeping everyone safe and informed.
“She’s ever-present at junior and All Stars sessions, not only supporting as an activator but also stepping in as a first aider whenever needed.
Beyond her official roles, Wendy is one of those invaluable volunteers who simply makes things happen — from running the bar and litter picking to fundraising and even helping with the covers!
“Her dedication extends to the club’s Disability and Super 1s groups, where she leads with warmth and enthusiasm to create inclusive, rewarding experiences both at Shelton and through the winter indoor sessions.
“As the lead coordinator for Club Mark, Wendy’s organisation and energy keep the club thriving. Her willingness to help in every capacity truly connects and strengthens the Shelton CC community.”
