Shrewsbury and Shelton claim indoor trophies

Teams from Shelton and Shrewsbury came out on top as part of a successful Strategic Leisure North Shropshire Women’s Softball Indoor League which included a trial of a new format.

With the competition in its second year, there were ten teams entered across two divisions, and it was decided to trial a new T6 format moving away from the pairs format used in previous years but still a six-a-side competition.

The four teams taking part in this trial were Shelton, Oswestry, Ellesmere and Condover.

The other six teams – Bomere Heath, Wem, Shrewsbury, Frankton, Whittington and Aston, competed together in the usual pairs format.

Competition organiser Katie Rushton said: “The division of four teams played a combination of pairs and T6 games, playing each other twice, in something we hope we can continue to develop in the future.”

Shelton won all six of their games to win the divisional title.

The other six teams played each other once across the four weeks of competition with an exciting finish as three teams finished on the same points.

This meant total net run score was used to decide the winners with Shrewsbury claiming the trophy ahead of Wem and then Bomere Heath.

Katie said: “It is fantastic to see such close results to the leagues across all of the women’s softball indoor activity. It highlights how far the teams have developed and how well they are all competing both indoor and outdoor.

“Thank you to all the teams for being involved this year and for supporting with the officiating.”
