Shimmo stars with the bat in Over 50s win

Adam Shimmons smashed 97 off just 67 balls to help Shropshire Over 50s to a 21-run victory over Gloucestershire at Shifnal CC.

He hit 11 boundaries and a maximum as he helped his side reach 248-5 from their 45 overs after Simon Millington (56) and Mark Downes (47) had laid the foundations with a second wicket partnership of 96 after Shropshire lost an early wicket.

Kumar Singh then helped reduce the visitors to 82-5 in the 22nd over with a spell of 3-36 with Downes and Tushar Jani picking up the other wickets to fall.

Although Gloucestershire staged something of a recovery after that, they still finished short of their victory target on 227-6.

The Over 50s 2nd XI enjoyed the batting during their recent trip to Worcester Cricket Club to take on Worcestershire.

Batting first, they made 271-9 from their 45 overs with Mark Jones top scoring with 79, Graham Trow 71, Richard Barge chipping in with 29 and James Ralph 28.

But Worcestershire also enjoyed the batting surface, knocking off the runs with15 balls to spare despite Terry Hughes picking up three wickets and Neil Lorimer two.

John Foster hit another century for the Over 60s 1st XI when they hosted neighbours Staffordshire at Wroxeter & Uppington CC.

He carried his bat for 105 out of the Shropshire total of 193-5 with Alan Cowdale hitting 30. Unfortunately batting first, Staffs had hit 271-3 from their 45 overs with Lorimer picking up two wickets.

The Over 60s 2nd XI finished their 45 overs on 139-7 when they hosted Warwickshire at Shrewsbury CC, skipper Jon Archer top scoring with 34 and Ian Ramsay hitting 26. The visitors knocked off the winning runs for the loss of one wicket.
