Sheila stepping down as County Safeguarding Officer
Cricket Shropshire is saying a fond farewell to County Safeguarding Officer Sheila Dickie this Christmas.
Sheila has been with the Board since 2016, serving in a number of roles before becoming the County Safeguarding Officer three years ago.
Since then she has built up a fabulous relationship with clubs and their Safeguarding Officers and the network of volunteer organisations in Shropshire
She has also been a key member of the events organising team in recent years but has now decided to step down from her roles with the Board.
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “Sheila can reflect with pride on the growth of the Board and the breadth of areas the Board now covers – she has been a huge part of that.
“Sheila was the only female employee when I joined the Board and has since overseen the growth in female involvement in roles at the Board and been a keen advocate in promoting female cricket – even starting a cricket section at her local running club.
“If you ever want to find somewhere suitable to eat, Sheila usually can provide a review as she seems to know the majority of eateries in the County!”
“I would like to thank her for her valued contribution to the success of the Board and for nurturing the growth and relationships with the club network. Her listening skills and pragmatic approach has allowed the network to feel totally supported by the Board and in particular Sheila.
“We would like to wish her well on her future adventures, whilst knowing she has left behind lots of friends not just work colleagues or associates.”
Cricket Shropshire Chair Adrian Collins said: “In so many ways Sheila has become an important member of the Cricket Shropshire team over the years. My personal, and those of the Board Directors, thanks are extended to Sheila; together with our very best wishes for the future.”
Taking on the role of County Safeguarding Officer in the new year will be Vanessa Russell, who joined the Board back in March from Shrewsbury College as Development Administrator.
She has experience in Safeguarding and will be supported in the early months by our Safeguarding Director Jennie Good as she familiarises herself with the systems and strategy of ECB.
Her primary focus will be to continue to support the network especially as we head into the hectic pre-season.
Steve added: “We are confident that the transition will be almost seamless and we look forward to what Vanessa can add to the role and balance the increasing demands of ECB whilst ensuring there is no further unnecessary burden on the volunteer network.”
