Girls Softball Festival fun at Shelton

An action-packed Girls Softball Cricket Festival at Shelton CC was a brilliant showcase and celebration of the growing popularity of the sport in Shropshire.
Shelton A and B were joined by teams from Allscott, Worfield and a mixed Sentinel/Pontesbury side for the tournament.
With players of mixed ages and abilities, the matches were full of energy, enthusiasm and great team spirit.
The festival was led by Cricket Shropshire’s dedicated women and girls’ coaches Naomi and Shannon who were on hand to support, encourage, and cheer the girls on throughout the day.
Matches took place across two pitches, ensuring everyone had plenty of game time and the chance to showcase their skills.
Worfield proved unbeatable on the day, winning all four of their matches to be crowned overall winners – but the atmosphere remained upbeat and positive throughout, with smiles all round and some fantastic cricket on dis.
Naomi said: “It was brilliant to see so many girls getting stuck into their cricket on a Sunday morning.
“There were loads of parents supporting too, which really added to the friendly, community feel of the festival.
“Women’s and girls’ cricket continues to grow rapidly both in Shropshire and nationally, with more clubs offering opportunities and more girls picking up a bat and ball than ever before.
“Cricket Shropshire is thrilled to see such strong participation and talent emerging across the county – and are proud to be playing a key part in building a bright future for the women’s and girls’ game.”
Shelton’s Director of Women and Girls’ Cricket Sophie Cadwallader said: “We welcomed girls from across the county to come together and try cricket in an accessible and fun way.
“It was a great day for all the girls involved and it’s a springboard into what will be an exciting summer ahead!”
