Forton claim first Furrows League win

Forton claimed their first win in the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League with a final over victory against Church Eaton Kinights.

Batting first, visitors the Knights finished their 20 overs on 158-7 with Richard West hitting 38 and skipper Douglas Hughes 36 the main contributors.

Charlie Sykes led the Forton attack claiming 3-31 from his four overs while Freddie Sykes nipped in with 2-19 off two overs.

Forton got off to a good start with openers Joe Roberts and Sam Gill both hitting 49 at better than a run a ball to give their side a platform to challenge for victory.

Louis Hancock then came in and blasted 35 off just 13 deliveries including three boundaries and three maximums before he was dismissed.

That allowed Forton to claim the victory with four balls to spare. Richard West claimed 2-25 for the visitors.

St Georges A continue to lead the way after beating Newport by 37 runs after the short trip down the A518 to Audley Avenue.

Batting first they finished on 144-9 – mainly due to the efforts of Faizan Khan who hit an unbeaten 53 before he retired.

Nadeem Chohan led the way with the ball claiming 3-23 while Michael Myatt chipped in with 2-26.

In the reply, the Dragons quickly reduced Newport to 39-5 with Shahanwaz Ahmad claiming 2-25, and although Alex O’Keeffe (40) and Chohan (20 not out) led the rebuilding job, Newport finished on 107-6.

Priorslee also remain unbeaten after their three games thanks to victory over Wrekin College at Edgmond.

Batting first, Wrekin set a target of 123-4 with Finley Lo hitting 20, Jack Hodgson 27 not out and George Osbourne providing some late fireworks with 36 off 21 balls.

The hosts knocked the runs off for the loss of two wickets, Bahul Babu hitting 53 off 23 balls before he retired and Shibu Vijayakumar finishing unbeaten on 25.

St Georges 2 claimed their first win of the campaign when they hosted Albrighton at Church Road.

Batting first, the visitors were in some trouble at 55-5 with Ibrar Ahmed doing most of the damage, but then Sam Wood (28) and Chris Morris (50 off 34 balls) boosted their total to 147-7 off their 20 overs.

Tom Griffiths was the mainstay of the St Georges reply, hitting 50 before he retired as the hosts got to their victory target with three overs to spare and the loss of six wickets, Oliver Furnival claiming two of the wickets to fall.
