Female only umpiring course a big success

The first female only Umpiring Course in Shropshire proved a big success.

The course was organised by the Shropshire Association of Cricket Officials in conjunction with Cricket Shropshire and was held at at Prestfelde School in Shrewsbury.

The course gave the 11 participants the basic knowledge, skills and confidence for them to go out and umpire games this summer, whether that is juniors, women and girls or for their club sides.

The course was run by SACO’s ECB Umpire Tutor team of Tim Barber and Nathan Bartram.

Tim said: “With the rapid expansion of women and girls cricket fixtures in the County in the last few years, we want to train female umpires and scorers so that they officiate their own games.

“As well as umpiring in the Women and Girls pathway our newly qualified umpires can, if they wish, also officiate in the men’s pathway.

“We would like to wish them all every success for the season and we look forward to seeing you out in the middle.”
