Dragons claim victory in Super Over thriller

St Georges 1s claimed their third win in three games when they hosted Albrighton in the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League – but for the second week in a row, it was a nail-biting finish following on from a Super Over victory the week before.
Batting first, Albrighton finished their 20 overs on 138-7 with opener Sanjiv Jogi making 37 and Alex Lawrence chipping in with 22 off 23 balls.
In reply Muhammad Raheel Khattak top scored with 29 from 21 balls but wickets fell at regular intervals as batters got starts but then got out.
Chris Morris claimed 2-25 and Sam Wood 2-18 as the Dragons hit the winning runs with just a ball to spare to claim the victory by four wickets.
Last week they made the short trip to Lilleshall to play a game which had to be abandoned earlier in the season due to the weather – and that one ended with a Super Over to decide the winners.
St Georges batted first and were bowled out for 140 with two balls remaining – Khattak again leading the way with 37, Chitti Arumilli hitting 20 and Manish Kumar 28.
Young Lilleshall spinner Stan Askin and seamer Conor Steele both took 3-24 from their four overs, while Harry Bedford claimed 2-32.
In the reply, skipper Adam Binfield hit 33 at the top of the order and Ed Wagstaff 47 as Lilleshall finished their innings on 140-6 – the scores tied.
That led to the first Super Over of the new competition – and St Georges prevailed to take the victory.
Newport claimed their second win of the campaign when they hosted Lilleshall at Audley Avenue.
Batting first, the Monument Men finished their 20 overs on 114-6 with Ed Wagstaff hitting 34 and Harry Bedford 22, Alex McNally claiming 2-16 for the hosts from his three overs.
Skipper Baadal Parag ensured there were no scares in the reply as he hit 51 off 50 balls before retiring, whilst Ed Fowler hit 28 off 21 balls at the top of the order.
Newport claimed the victory for the loss of two wickets in the 17th over.
Priorslee made it two wins from two games when they beat St Georges 2s at Edgmond.
Batting first, Ibrar Ahmed hit 48 and Muhammad Zaheer 23 as the Dragons were bowled out for 139 in the 20thover.
Nithin Nedungattu with 3-21 and Pranay Puri with 3-11 did the main damaged while Renjish Rajan chipped in with two wickets.
Wicket-keeper Bahul Babu led the way in the reply with 46 while Santhosh Bhatt (32 not out) and skipper Shantanu Golar (25 not out) made sure the victory target was reached in the 18th over for the loss of four wickets.
Muhammad Shahzeb picked up two wickets for the Dragons.
Church Eaton enjoyed their trip to Wrekin College, picking up a 69-run victory.
Batting first, Oliver Wilson (36) Harvey Sidwell (20) and Will Ross (22) all chipped in to their final total of 154-9 from their allocation of overs. Henry Morris was the pick of the bowlers with 3-21 while Jonathan Mather claimed 2-25.
Wicket-keeper Finley Lo top scored in the reply with 24 as Wrekin finished their 20 overs on 85-5, Richard West claiming 2-4 from his two overs for the visitors.
Thanks to Furrows for their support for the league which was set up this season to serve the East of Shropshire and is certainly proving to be an exciting addition to the cricket calendar in the county.
