Davies helps steer Over 50s to win over Worcestershire

A late blitz by Ian Davies helped Shropshire Over 50s claim a two-wicket victory over Worcestershire at Shrewsbury CC.
He hit an unbeaten 42 off 35 balls with five boundaries and two maximums to see his side to victory with two overs to spare.
Shropshire had restricted Worcestershire to 195-8 from their 45 overs with Lee Jones claiming 3-47 and all the other bowlers chipping in with a wicket apiece.
The Shropshire reply then got off to a stuttering start as they were reduced to 12-2, but Simon Millington (33) and Mark Jones (48) put on 80 runs for the third wicket to bring the game back into the balance.
Lee Jones hit 27 off 23 and then Davies’ fireworks ensured Shropshire claimed the victory to make it two wins from three games so far this season.
The Over 50s 2nd XI found themselves under the cosh when they travelled to Menai Bridge CC to take on North Wales.
Matt Bixby smashed an unbeaten 176 off 120 balls as the hosts batted first and 340-5 from their 45 overs, Derek Caslin the pick of the Shropshire attack with 2-49 from his nine overs.
In the Shropshire reply, opener Graham Trow and No 3 Rob Peel both hit 51, Andy Yates 38 and Russ Cadwallader 33 as Shropshire were bowled out for 223.
Shropshire Over 60s 1st XI travelled to Banbury to take on Oxfordshire and suffered a blow when Preston Fletcher suffered a hand injury during his spell attempting a return catch.
Up to that point, Shropshire had managed to contain the hosts with Peter Hayes particularly miserly taking 1-16 from his nine overs. Oxfordshire rallied to finish on 246-4 from their 45 overs.
In the reply, Shropshire were reduced to 29-3 early on, but rallied with Hayes hitting 29 and Paul Humphreys 35. Skipper Lol Woodhall chipped in with 21 at the end of the innings, but they were dismissed for 139 in the 44th over.
