Call to get involved with Inclusive Umpiring Course
Cricket Shropshire is encouraging clubs with diverse membership to register for the final Inclusive Introduction to Umpiring course before the start of the new season.
It is being run at Wrekin College on Sunday, April 12 – and there will also be two scoring courses on offer on the same day.
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “The date has been chosen to follow both Ramadan and Easter, and it also coincides with the eve of Vaisakhi, recognising a period of celebration for many within our cricketing communities.
“We are particularly keen to reach clubs with diverse playing memberships. While participation on the field is thriving, we are not yet seeing the same level of representation across our vital support roles – coaching, umpiring, and scoring.
“This matters. Young people coming through our junior pathway benefit enormously from seeing role models who reflect their communities and identities.
“To help achieve this, we warmly encourage volunteers from all backgrounds – especially those currently under-represented – to consider attending this upcoming Umpiring course.
“We have had relative success when offering our female only courses across each of the support roles and hope this can be equalled with this initiative, noting it is not exclusive it is an inclusive offer for all genders and backgrounds.”
As a first, a buffet lunch will be provided on the day, featuring a blend of traditional afternoon tea and Asian-inspired nibbles, celebrating the cultural festivals taking place at this time.
The umpire course attendees will come together at lunch with a scorers’ DLS/Linear course which occurring on the same day.
Steve added: “We would be grateful if you could share this opportunity within your clubs and wider communities. It does have limited spaces.”
“If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.”
