Newport Girls High U13s claim regional CTS title
Newport Girls High U13s claimed the title at the West Midlands Regional Finals of Chance to Shine’s Chance to Compete competition at Dorridge Cricket Club.
They took on five other teams from around the region in the finals in a round-robin competition and came top thanks to their teamwork and energy seeing them through games.
In the Under 15s competitions, Shropshire’s representative were Thomas Adams School from Wem – again taking on the winners from five other counties in a round-robin competition.
It was a close-fought competition and eventually they finished as runners-up losing the decisive game by just three runs.
Cricket Shropshire’s Development Administrator Vanessa Russell, who was at the competition said: “Congratulations and a brilliant effort from both our teams who represented Shropshire with pride on a sizzling Summer day.
“Newport Girls High clinched the title in impressive fashion after five hard-fought games with their consistency bringing home a fantastic win for Shropshire.
“Thomas Adams gave it their all, their determination, skill and resilience shone through all day.
“The atmosphere all day was full of excitement, with teams from across the region showcasing the growing strength and talent in girls’ cricket.
“It was brilliant to watch both our schools in action. I found myself constantly moving between pitches, caught up in the drama and skill on display.
“The results could have gone either way, and it’s amazing to see Shropshire girls competing at such a high level. Huge congratulations to both teams!
“A massive thank you to Dorridge Cricket Club for hosting such a well-run event and to all the players, teachers and coaches who made the day such a memorable one.
“The future of girls’ cricket in the West Midlands is looking incredibly bright!”
