All systems go for Junior Leagues

Cricket Shropshire’s Junior Leagues are back for 2025 bigger and better than ever – with many launching next week.

A new feature will be our Under 11s Development Competition – perfect for nurturing the future stars of the game. It uses the softer balls while the youngsters still wear protective kit – ideal for building confidence and skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Starting Dates to Remember:

• Under 13s launch on Wednesday 7th May

• Under 11 Hard Ball on Sunday 11th May

• Under 15s from Monday 12th May

This Year’s Junior League in Numbers:

• 116 teams from 42 clubs (inside and outside the county!)

• 21 Divisions

• Around 1,300 players taking part

That’s a record-breaking summer of youth cricket!

Cricket Shropshire Development Administrator Vanessa Russell said: “We’ve re-shaped some divisions – especially at U11 level – into smaller groups to help ensure more matches actually get played.

“Last year saw too many missed games, so this year we’re going for quality over quantity. Sometimes… less really is more!

“We’ll also be in touch with clubs interested in an Under 18 Competition. With so much cricket happening, we know peer-group games can be vital for keeping older juniors engaged and growing in the sport.

“Let’s play, develop, and enjoy the game together!”
