Bowlers lead the way in Over 50s win
A disciplined bowling performance saw Shropshire’s Over 50s to a 73-run victory over Herefordshire at Shrewsbury CC.
Batting first, they were bowled out off the last ball of their 45 overs for 207 with Bobby Gill top scoring with 47.
Will Askin hit 44 off 35 balls down the order with Terry Hughes chipping in with 30 and Mark Jones 34.
In the reply, the Shropshire attack restricted Herefordshire to 134-6 with Askin 2-10 from six overs and James Ralph 2-21 from his allocation of nine to seal the victory.
The Over 50s 2nd XI picked up seven points from a defeat in a high-scoring affair against Worcestershire at Kidderminster Victoria CC.
Batting first, the hosts scored 340-4 from their 45 overs with Julian Gallimore picking up two wickets.
A rapid century from Lee Jones kept Shropshire in the hunt in the reply as he made 126 from just 61 balls, but they eventually finished on 268-5.
Terry Hughes also hit 76 and Graham Trow 20.
Shropshire Over 70s came up against a strong Gloucestershire side at Shrewsbury CC – the visitors enjoying the surface as they made 274-6 in their 45 overs.
In the reply, skipper Peter Hayes hit 59, Bluey Thomas 41 and John Hemmings was 25 not out as Shropshire finished their reply on 176-7.
They then travelled to Greenfield Cricket Club to take on Lancashire in a match reduced to 35 overs-a-side due to the hot weather.
Batting first, Shropshire openers Carlton Murray (52) and John Foster (33) led the way as the visitors made 157-7.
The hosts reached their victory target for the loss of five wickets in the 29th over with Geoff Bristow claiming 2-29.
Shropshire Over 60s entertained Worcestershire at Bridgnorth and made 155-7 from their 45 overs batting first with Peter Hayes hitting 41, Martin Chambers 28 and Ian Ramsay 24.
In reply Worcestershire eased to victory for the loss of one wicket.
They also struggled against Warwickshire when they travelled to Walmley CC as the hosts hit 274-4 in their innings, Preston Fletcher claiming 3-54. In reply, Shropshire were bowled out for 83, Mo Fiaz top scoring with 19.
