New kit but same result for D40s
Cricket Shropshire’s Disability D40 side got the chance to showcase their new kit on their long trip to Yorkshire at the weekend.
But unfortunately they still ended up on the wrong side of the result at Higham Cricket Club near Barnsley.
The squad were once again hit by late cry-offs which meant they only had ten players to defend a large outfield
Skipper Adam Marshall lost the toss and the hosts elected to bat first and hit 190-7 from their 40 overs..
Coach Graham Furber said: “Generally we fielded very well on a fast but bumpy outfield, and several fine catches were held.
“Best bowlers were Matty Bailey (2-17) and Adam James (2-23), returning to the side after two years out following major leg surgery.”
In reply, Shropshire lost Damon Morris to the second ball of the innings and were dismissed for 73 with only skipper Marshall (17) and Rab Cooper (20) making any significant contributions.
Graham added: “Not a great start for the first outing of our new shirts!
“Higham Cricket Club has wonderful views of the Yorkshire countryside and are always the most hospitable hosts of disability cricket – we send our sincerest thanks to them.
“We wish Darren Spooner and his squad all the best for the rest of the season.
The next D40 game sees Shropshire entertain Lancashire IIs at Calverhall CC on Sunday, June 7.
