All systems go for 2026 Furrows Mid-Week League
This year’s Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League received its official launch when teams gathered at Wrekin College.
The expanded second edition of the competition starts on May 5 with the first round of fixtures.
With an increase in the number of teams for 2026, the league has expanded will now feature two divisions.
There will be six teams in each division which means teams will play each other home and away – meaning ten games in total.
Division One will feature defending champions St Georges, last season’s runners-up Church Eaton Knights, Priorslee, Allscott Heath, Harpers and Forton.
Albrighton, Newport, Lilleshall, Wheaton Aston, Codsall and Broseley are in Division Two.
League Administrator Tim Bellett said: “It was great to see representatives from the teams gather together for the pre-season briefing and a meeting with the sponsors Furrows.
“Everyone is looking forward to what should be an exciting season where we will be looking to build on the success of the inaugural campaign in 2025.
“Big thanks to Furrows for their continuing support of the league which we set up after identifying a need for mid-week cricket in the East of the county to complement the offer made by the Shrewsbury and District Evening League.
“Our aim is to provide a ‘friendly’ competitive competition that encourages participation amongst people who might not be available to play the longer format at weekends.
“The feedback we had last year was that clubs did see new players come through their doors, and some of those went on to play weekend cricket, which is fantastic.”
Dan Foskett from Furrows said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Cricket Shropshire in supporting the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League.
“At Furrows, we’re passionate about being part of our local community and helping to grow opportunities within sport.
“This league is a fantastic platform to encourage participation, development, and enjoyment of cricket, and we’re delighted to play a role in its continued success.”
