Making sport work for students
Cricket Shropshire worked with 73 students across two days as part of the Make Sport Work programme at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology, funded by UKSPF.
The learners came from a range of courses including Football, Sport, Fitness and Public Services, each bringing enthusiasm and energy to the sessions.
Every participant successfully completed the Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) Level 3 qualification, delivered by Edufit4Training, a nationally recognised award that will support them in future employment, volunteering, and community roles.
Alongside this, all students also achieved the Make Sport Work certificate, reflecting their completion of the programme and their progress in key skill areas including numeracy, literacy and digital skills.
“The students were outstanding throughout. Their attitude, engagement and teamwork were excellent, and they supported one another really well during both the theory and practical elements. Staff at the college also spoke very highly of the groups and how well they represented Shrewsbury College.”

College staff shared similar praise, acknowledging how well the learners represented Shrewsbury College and how positively they approached each activity.
It has been a hugely positive and successful programme, and a clear example of how Make Sport Work is helping young people develop new qualifications, transferable life skills and self-belief.
