Lots of interest in 2026 Furrows Evening League
We’ve seen a surge of interest in the 2026 edition of the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League.
Four new teams have expressed an interest in joining the league next season in addition to four registrations from clubs which took part in the inaugural competition in the Summer.
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “It’s great to see that more clubs want to join the league we launched this year to fill a gap we identified for a mid-week cricket offer in the county.
“We felt that although the Shrewsbury & District Evening League was well suited for clubs on the west side of the county, there was a gap in the market for clubs who wanted to play mid-week cricket in the east.
“It was also desire of the league to attract ex-players or new players who couldn’t commit to the longer formats on a weekend to play in a shorter format during the week.
“It was great to hear back from a large number of the clubs on how successful this has been, Albrighton saying six new players came on board and four of them enjoyed the environment so much they committed to Saturdays throughout the second half of the season.
“Priorslee were equally delighted that this league gave them the opportunity for some of their members who couldn’t commit to weekends to play in the midweek league.”
So far, we have had interest from Codsall, Allscott Heath, Wheaton Aston and the Tweedale Posties in joining the league.
Church Eaton, Priorslee, Albrighton and Newport who all took part last year have also said they were looking to join the League again in 2026.
Steve said: “Obviously we are hoping that the majority of the teams who took part this Summer will join again – they can fill in the Expressions of Interest form, it only takes a couple of minutes – and more may be interested.
“We have already had discussions with the clubs involved this season after they had a big say in how the competition was run, and there may well be the opportunity to run two divisions in 2026. This could include one for ‘development’ teams
“Also, it was great to have Furrows on board as the competition sponsors, and we look forward to their continued support in 2026.”
Cricket Shropshire is looking for Expressions of Interest to be submitted before November 30, 2025. Once we have all the entries in, the Board can then consider the league structure for 2026 in consultation with the clubs.
