Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League EOIs
Cricket Shropshire is looking for Expressions of Interest from teams who want to take part in the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League in 2026.
Nine teams took part in the league this year in its first season – and it proved a successful addition to the cricket offer in Shropshire.
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “We launched the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League this year after spotting a gap in the cricket offer in the county – and it proved a big hit.
“We felt that although the Shrewsbury & District Evening League was well suited for clubs on the west side of the county, there was a gap in the market for clubs who wanted to play mid-week cricket in the East.
“We had nine teams taking part in 2025 and the overwhelming response was positive, so now we’re looking ahead to how we can enhance the offer next year.
“It was also desire of the league to attract ex-players or new players who couldn’t commit to the longer formats on a weekend to play in a shorter format during the week.
“It was great to hear back from a large number of the clubs on how successful this has been, Albrighton saying six new players came on board and four of them enjoyed the environment so much they committed to Saturdays throughout the second half of the season.
“Priorslee were equally delighted that this league gave them the opportunity for some of their members who couldn’t commit to weekends to play in the midweek league. ”
Clubs can now send in their Expressions of Interest via the form below before November 30. Once we have all the entries in, the Board can then consider the league structure for 2026 in consultation with the clubs.
Steve added: “Clubs had a big say on the structure and rules of the competition in 2025, and have already had an end of season review meeting which came up with number of considerations for the 2026 season we will be looking to build on. If there are enough entries, we could consider expanding to two divisions or look at other options.
“Also, it was great to have Furrows on board as the competition sponsors, and we look forward to their continued support in 2026.”
The 2025 league winners were St Georges A, and in another new addition to the calendar, took on the Shrewsbury & District Evening League winners Grasshoppers in a Champions Challenge game at Allscott Heath CC.
Grasshoppers won that game, and there is the option of a similar challenge game next season.
Any clubs interested should fill in the form below. If anyone has any queries about the Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League, they can email Cricket Shropshire Development Administrator Vanessa Russell via vanessa.russell@cricketshropshire.co.uk
