D40s round off season with Cheshire trip

Cricket Shropshire’s D40 squad rounded off their season in the Quest North Division League One with a trip to Barrow CC to take on Cheshire.
Arriving at the ground after heavy morning rain, the side found a sodden outfield and a green uncovered wicket.
It was a crucial toss to win, but unfortunately Shropshire lost and were asked to bat. After a steady start, they were dismissed for 105 in 30.4 overs with Matty Bailey (35) and Danny Percy (34) top scoring.
Coach Graham Furber said: “Probably typical of our season, Cheshire opener Josh Brown was caught behind by debutant Rab Cooper off Matty Bailey first ball of the innings, but the umpire called a ‘no-ball’.
“Josh then made us pay by playing an amazing innings of 85 not out off just 37.”
Although the hosts raced to victory with 111, skipper Adam Marshall bowling off-spin in the absence of Tom Wallace, made in-roads by taking all three wickets to fall for 37 runs.
Graham added: “In the taking of one of those wickets, there was an unfortunate injury to Charlie Vickers who had his hand badly cut by the spikes of Danny as the latter took an excellent diving catch which necessitated a hospital visit.
“So finished our first season at the top level of the disability game in this country.
“Our squad has worked hard with great spirit all season but we have been consistently out-gunned by the really strong batting line-ups that our opponents have possessed.
“Much to be considered over the winter.”
