Furrows East Shropshire Mid-week League launch

The new Furrows East Shropshire Mid-Week League takes it’s bow in May after months of planning involving all the clubs involved.
The competition is being launched to help fill a gap in the market and complement the existing Shrewsbury Evening League which services the rest of the county.
A launch meeting was held at Wrekin College Cricket Pavillion this week involving the teams, organisers and headline sponsor Furrows who are helping to kick-start with the league with a splash of colour.
Furrows Sales Manager Isha Alsadek (Telford branch) was on hand to present each club with two FREE match balls and access to discounted pink balls.
She said: “We’re so excited to support a league that brings people together, creates opportunities, and makes cricket more accessible. Let’s make it fun!”
All the clubs who entered have been given a say in the competition rules and regulations. These include:
- Changing ends every 5 overs
- Fielding restrictions
- A Super Over Showdown if scores are tied (yes, even if a team’s 9 down!)
Mike Waldron from St Georges CC said: “This is Recreational cricket at its best. This league opens the door for juniors and players who can’t do weekends. No pressure—just participation, enjoyment, and (hopefully) sunshine!”
Charlie from Albrighton CC said: “We’re building something great – getting former players back, developing juniors, and giving everyone a chance to play. Midweek, local games? Perfect!”
Richard from Wrekin College said: “This league gives younger players a chance to learn alongside experienced teammates. More games, more chances, more cricket. What’s not to love?”
Mike from Church Eaton CC said: “Weekends can be tough with work and family commitments, so we’re thrilled about midweek fixtures. We’re stepping into the unknown, but we’re excited to meet new clubs and get people back into the game.”
Ranjith from Priorslee CC said: “Player registrations are up—we’ve got young talent coming through and a real buzz in the squad. We’re aiming high this season and can’t wait for competitive midweek action!”
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese added: “This is all about fun, inclusivity, and bringing people back to the game we love. A few clubs already wish they’d joined – next year, we hope to welcome even more!
“All the clubs have been given a say in how the competition is set up and run – it is their competition after all.
“And big thanks to Furrows who have stepped in with support which helps us provide a wider cricket offer in Shropshire and hopefully get more people involved in the game.”
