Meeting planned to discuss new evening league
We’ve now had seven teams sign up for our new Evening League which will serve the East of Shropshire in 2025 and are planning a meeting early in the New Year.
There have been expressions of interest from Wrekin College, Albrighton, Lilleshall, Newport, Church Eaton and two teams from St Georges.
This means we have enough teams to set up the league and are now planning a meeting early in January with the interested clubs to discuss the details.
There is still time for any other clubs who are interested to get in touch and join in the fun by emailing info@cricketshropshire.co.uk by December 9.
Cricket Shropshire is now drawing up a framework for the league rules and format based on the feedback we have received for discussion at the meeting on Monday, January 13, at St Georges Cricket Club in Telford.
The aim of the league is to complement the existing Shrewsbury & District Evening League which has been running for many years serving the central and western areas of Shropshire.
Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “We are hoping the creation of this League will result in less of a logistical challenge for those clubs on the Eastern side of the county who want to play midweek cricket
“We hope with this initiative we will also be able to attract some of those players who have left the traditional formats but still have an affinity with the game, getting siblings playing alongside parents, whilst also increasing female participation.
“We would also welcome entries from those social groups and workplaces who could play as a ‘hybrid’ of a few club players similar to Shrewsbury-based Grasshoppers side and similar teams from former years.”
