New Young Ambassadors Programme date available

Cricket Shropshire has lined up another Young Ambassadors Programme starting during the February half-term in 2026.

If follows on from the huge demand for the courses we launched this Autumn half-term.

The first Young Ambassadors programme took place in 2021 with the aim of helping youngsters develop their leadership skills and then put them into practice by volunteering at their clubs.

There will be 12 spaces on the February 2026 course for youngsters aged 13-17 available at no cost to the participants.

This course will run in two parts with the first taking place on February 19, 2026, with a three-hour Umpiring and Scoring Workshop followed by a ‘mini medics’ First Aid course.

The second part of the course will take place on April 8 which will feature coaching and a grounds maintenance element. The final part of the course will involve a game where they participants will be asked to officiate.

They will then be asked to go back to their clubs and complete 20 hours of voluntary work during the 2026 season to graduate from the programme.

Cricket Shropshire Lead Officer Steve Reese said: “Our Young Ambassadors programme has proved to be really popular and successful in recent years.

“We have seen dozens of youngsters taking part, learning new skills and then going back to their clubs and helping out in all aspects of the game and becoming role models for others.

“A few people have been asking us if we were going to continue the programme and we are more than happy to do so as it benefits the youngsters, their clubs and the wider community as they learn leadership skills.”
